Nuvoton ML56 NuMicro® Low-Power Microcontrollers (MCUs)

Nuvoton ML56 NuMicro® Low-Power Microcontrollers (MCUs) are based on the embedded 1T 8051-based CMOS core running up to 24MHz speed. These MCUs feature 64KB Flash memory, up to 4KB Flash for user program loader (LDROM) share with ARPOM, and 4KB SRAM. The ML56 MCUs include a Watchdog Timer (WDT), self-Wake-up Timer (WKT), two ISO7816 smart card interfaces, two SPI, and two I2C interfaces. These MCUs are integrated with a capacitive touch sensing circuit with a touch key controller, supporting up to fourteen independent touch channels with a low-power feature. The ML56 MCUs are used in applications such as thermostats, measurement devices, and home appliances.

  • Communication interfaces:
    • 2 UART (UART0/1) interfaces with standard UART (up to 1.5MHz, and 9600 baud rate in 38.4kHz low power run mode)
    • Up to 2 smart card interfaces support ISO7816-3 and UART function
    • 2 I2C interfaces (up to 400KHz)
    • Up to 2 SPI interfaces (up to 12MHz)
  • Analog:
    • 1 12-bit, 500kSPS SAR ADC (Up to 14 channels input) with two internal channels for Internal temperature sensor and bandgap
    • ADC support continuous scan mode and data storage in SRAM
    • 4-level internal voltage select: 1.5/2.0/2.5/3.0V reference voltage for ADC, ACMP
    • Up to 2 channels of analog comparators
  • LCD driver:
    • Support programmable internal VLCD charge pump mode
    • Support Type-A and Type-B two types of waveform
    • Support 2.8V to 5.5V LCD operating voltage
    • Support internal resistor bias and capacitor bias
    • 1/2, 1/3,  and1/4 bias selectable
    • 4 COM x 32 SEG, 6 COM x 30 SEG, and 8 COM x 28 SEG
  • Touch key:
    • Supports up to 14 touch keys + 1 reference
    • Supports any CLKO pin as shielding and any TK pin as reference
    • Programmable sensitivity levels for each channel
    • Programmable scanning speed for different applications
    • Supports any touch key wake up for low-power applications
    • Supports single key scan and programmable periodic key scan
    • Programmable interrupt options for key scan complete with/without threshold control
  • PDMA controller:
    • Up to 4-channel PDMA controller
    • Support transfer between the smart card and SRAM
    • Support transfer between SPI and SRAM
    • Support transfer between SRAM to SRAM transfer
  • Operating conditions:
    • 1.8V to 3.6V voltage range
    • -40°C to 105°C temperature range
